Neurosurgery @ MMC M.I.N.D.S.

Specialty Surgeries

At the Makati Medical Center, the Department of Neurosurgery offers certain surgeries which not all hospitals have the trained surgeons, skills, and equipment to perform.  We pride ourselves on always looking forward to whatever techniques and treatments to serves our patients better.

Functional Neurosurgery

Deep brain stimulation

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a surgical procedure used to treat disabling symptoms of neurological disorders, including dystonia, epilepsy, essential tremor, and Parkinson’s disease. DBS uses a surgically implanted, battery-operated medical device called an implantable pulse generator (IPG)—similar to a heart pacemaker—to deliver electrical stimulation to specific areas in the brain that control movement, which blocks the abnormal nerve signals that cause symptoms. Neuroablation: pallidotomy and thalamotomy.

Neuroablation is a surgical procedure to ablate or destroy specific brain tissues involved in passing maladaptive brain signals, causing certain symptoms of disease. Pallidotomy is used to treat Parkinson’s disease and dystonia, while thalamotomy is used to treat the tremor of essential tremor and Parkinson’s disease. It is a fast, safe procedure without the need for expensive implants.
